HOW “SMART” IS YOUR SMARTPHONE? “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” — Colossians 3:2 KJVWe call it a smartphone, but it can make us foolish with our time. A smartphone can put the world at our fingertips—news, sports, videos, games, social media, messages, and entertainment. Yet while the phone gets smarter, we can become more distracted. We check the phone before we check the Bible. We answer notifications quicker than we answer the call to prayer. We can scroll for an hour and then say we are too busy to read God's Word. The phone itself is not the enemy. What controls our attention is the issue. Jesus warned: “Watch ye therefore, and pray always...” — Luke 21:36 KJV Satan does not always have to get a Christian to reject the Bible. Sometimes distraction accomplishes his purpose by keeping us from reading it. He does not have to stop us from believing in prayer if he can simply keep us too occupied to pray. Your smartphone may know your schedule, your contacts, your interests, and even where you are going—but it cannot give you spiritual wisdom. A “smart” phone is not very smart when it keeps you from the Word that makes you wise. “The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.” — Psalm 119:130 KJV Put the phone down. Pick the Bible up. Don't allow the things designed to get your attention to steal the attention that belongs to God.
