A Present HelpPsalms 46:1 “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” We all have had days that we thought would not end soon enough. In days like that we forgot that God is “a very present help”. “Very”, a word that means exceedingly, much, force, abundance, to a great degree. “Present”, a word that means to find, attain, secure, to appear, to exist. “Help”, a word that means to support, succor, assist, aid. What this verse in Psalms is saying is simple. God is our help, our support, He is the God who will run to us. Not tomorrow, not when it is too late, but the very moment we need Him we will find Him there with us. He will appear in force, in abundance, in great degree, exceeding what we need. Why do we forget such great truths and precious promises about God? Maybe it is not that we forgot, but the reality that the world, and Satan has clouded our view of the truth about Him. Sometimes our faith is weak. It is then that we must return to the Scriptures. Romans 10:17 reminds us that our “faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God”. God is our refuge and strength in all our days, even in those that are troubling and long. Go to Jesus. He always has an open invitation. He said in Matthew 11:28 “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
