THE HORROR OF SIN“Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.” — Romans 12:9 KJVWe have learned to minimize what God tells us to abhor. We soften sin by changing its name, excusing its presence, and comparing ourselves with someone worse. But changing what we call sin never changes what sin is.Sin is evil, and its intentions are evil.Sin never tells you where it intends to take you. It offers pleasure while hiding the consequences. It whispers, “Just once,” then demands another. What we tolerate becomes easier to repeat; what we repeat becomes easier to excuse; and what we excuse can eventually control us.“...sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.” — James 1:15 KJVNotice: “when it is finished.” We look at sin's beginning; God warns us about its end.Sin destroys peace, damages families, ruins testimonies, hardens consciences, steals blessings, produces guilt and can bring judgment. Sin always costs more than it promises.And if you want to know how seriously God views sin, look at Calvary. The precious blood of Jesus Christ reminds us that sin is not a harmless mistake to laugh about or excuse. Don't pet your sin. Don't protect it. Don't rename it.Confess it and forsake it. “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.” — Proverbs 28:13 The problem today isn't that we take sin too seriously. We don't take it seriously enough.
