But he said unto them, EXCEPT I SHALL SEE in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe."(John 20:24-25) (caps mine)"EXCEPT I SHALL SEE" Poor ole Thomas, he's worn that moniker "doubting" ever since he asked for proof of our Lord's resurrection some 2000 years ago.One night when the doors were shut for fear of the Jews and a lack of faith in Jesus, the risen Christ appeared to the disciples. For 10 of his followers, it was a night of shouting, but for one who was branded with skepticism, it was an evening of doubting.But are we any different today than Thomas was that night? How often have we questioned God's will? How many times have we asked Him for a sign before we trusted His countless promises and obeyed His clear commands? Oh, to be sure, it's like that great old hymn declares, "Trust and obey for there's no other way."When nightfall surrounds us and our fears strangle us, we would do well to remember that we have not only the Risen Christ WITH us (Psalm 37:25; Psalm 94:14; Hebrews 13:5), but also WITHIN us (Romans 8:10; Galatians 2:20; Colossians 1:27).Yes, Christians will always have questions; but folks, Christ will always have the answers! The answers that you and I are asking for will not be found in a sign waiting for proof but in a sure word of prophecy. That fisher of men wrote, "We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:" (2 Peter 1:19).Friends, let the word of God shine in that dark place today and watch the day dawn and the day star arise in your heart as you continue your journey on God's Freeway of Faith.
