Not Ashamed At His Coming 1 John 2:28, 29 “And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming. If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.” We know that Jesus Christ is coming again. When, nonone knows the day, or the hour. In these verses the Christian is admonished to “abide in Him”, that “we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before Him at His appearing”. The word “abide” means to remain, to sojourn, not to depart. The way to do this is to spend time daily in His Word, be faithful to church and His work, let not sin have dominion over you, and to do His will for your life. This will help to build “confidence” so that we are not “ashamed before Him at His coming”. The word “ashamed” here has to do with feeling disgraced. How do you think any Christian would feel, standing before Christ when He comes, knowing they just got caught in sin, or has been unfaithful to Him and His cause? Disgraced is a good word to describe the feeling. May God help us who are saved to abide in Him.
