AND, AT THE SAME TIME CANADA IS SENDING $$$BILLIONS IN FOREIGN AID OUT OF OUR COUNTRY WHILE OUR PEOPLE SLEEP IN TENT CITIES AND BEG AT FOOD BANKS. Immigrant and community groups in Alberta say they have noticed an increase in anti-immigrant and anti-Sikh sentiment, including hateful comments online, as the province prepares for its upcoming referendum. Calgary Immigrant Support Society co-founder Saima Jamal said she has seen hateful comments targeting Muslim, Indian and Sikh communities online. Calgary police said there was no credible threat to public safety surrounding a recent Muslim Heritage Day event, but uniformed officers were assigned to attend. Sikh community leaders have also expressed concerns about anti-Sikh hate in Alberta. Edmonton police reported 139 hate incidents and 43 hate crimes so far in 2026. Calgary police said 272 suspected hate crime or incident reports had been received this year, with 44 determined to be hate-motivated after investigation. Police said newcomers or immigrants were the most frequently targeted group among those reports. The article also examines concerns about the province’s upcoming referendum. On Oct. 19, Albertans will vote on 10 referendum questions, including five related to immigration policy and one concerning whether Alberta should remain in Canada or begin the legal process for a binding separation referendum. The Alberta government’s spokesperson rejected claims that the referendum questions are linked to increased anti-immigrant sentiment or hate, calling the accusation false and inflammatory.
