Rep Dwayne Yunker — THIS ISN’T SATIRE. THIS IS THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF OREGON AT THE OREGON STATE FAIR. Take a good look at the messages they chose to put on display for Oregonians: “ICE OUT.” “NO ONE IS ILLEGAL ON STOLEN LAND.” “TRANS RIGHTS ARE HUMAN RIGHTS.” And right beside it: “PRO-WOMEN.” You couldn’t write the contradictions better if you tried. The party calling itself “pro-women” also supports an ideology that increasingly refuses to preserve clear biological distinctions when it comes to women’s sports, privacy, and sex-based protections. They display “NO ONE IS ILLEGAL ON STOLEN LAND,” as though the entire history of civilization can be reduced to a protest sign. Human history is filled with tribes, kingdoms, nations, and empires fighting over territory, migrating, conquering, losing wars, negotiating treaties, buying land, and redrawing borders. America has dark chapters in its treatment of Native Americans that should be taught honestly, but turning the entire country into illegitimate “stolen land” is political activism, not serious history. Then comes “ICE OUT.” Apparently enforcing immigration law and maintaining a national border is now something to protest. And here’s the part Oregon voters should pay attention to: Democrats are running for legislative seats all across Oregon asking you to give their party even more power in Salem. So every Democratic candidate should have to answer a very simple question: Is this your agenda too? Do you support these messages? Do you support your party’s positions when they come before the Legislature? And if you disagree, exactly where are you willing to stand up and vote against your own party? Because candidates don’t get to campaign as moderates at home and then pretend the agenda of the political party they are helping put in power has nothing to do with them. Oregon already has enormous problems with affordability, housing, education, homelessness, healthcare costs, taxes, regulations, and the cost of doing business. Can Oregon really afford to send MORE Democrats to the House and Senate so Salem can spend even MORE time advancing this kind of ideological agenda? The picture speaks for itself. This isn’t some fringe protest outside the Oregon State Fair. This is what the Democratic Party of Oregon chose to put on display inside it. Before you vote for another Democrat for the Legislature, ask them: DO YOU SUPPORT THIS?
