BREAKING: SO *THAT’S* HOW! Gas stations Trump praised for selling suspiciously cheap “patriotic” fuel were supplied by a company accused of stealing nearly $4 MILLION worth of gas without paying!
Donald Trump celebrated earlier this year when Freedom Fuel stations began selling gasoline for $3.47 a gallon, roughly 40 cents below market price.
Why so cheap? Trump had a theory: “They love the U.S.A.”
Now a federal lawsuit offers a considerably less patriotic explanation.
Mansfield Oil alleges that KRSM, a fuel company run by brothers Farrukh and Farhan Kazmi that supplied some Freedom Fuel stations, took more than ONE MILLION GALLONS of gasoline worth nearly $4 million and never paid for it.
In fact, Mansfield put the alleged secret to those bargain-basement prices right in its complaint:
“KRSM was able to sell such fuel for such low prices and garner such publicity because it never paid Plaintiff for such fuel.”
Trump had enthusiastically promoted Freedom Fuel when its cheap prices started attracting attention.
“Freedom Fuel is VERY smart to be selling gasoline for $3.47 a gallon,” Trump wrote, explaining that the company could afford to do it because “they love the U.S.A.”
Freedom Fuel itself is not accused of wrongdoing and is not a defendant in the lawsuit. But Mansfield's attorney says some of the disputed fuel went to at least 10 Freedom Fuel locations.
The defendants say the case is merely a dispute over invoices. But there's some history here.
The Kazmis have faced more than a dozen previous lawsuits alleging the same shenanigans. In one case, a supplier accused one brother of taking $667,000 worth of fuel without paying, and a judge ultimately ordered repayment in a default judgment.
The White House says Trump has no business relationship with Freedom Fuel. He simply saw the extraordinarily cheap gasoline and decided to publicly congratulate the people selling it.
This is such typical Trump.
He didn’t know or care how they were doing it. He saw the $3.47 gas as politically useful, and decided the missing ingredient in America's energy markets *must* be patriotism, and announced his conclusion to millions of people. Because, why not?
Now Mansfield has revealed their business model: don't pay for the product you buy.
That'll sure lower your overhead.
