The 60-day linger window is dead. Lose the H-1B job and the clock stops. No extra weeks shopping for the next employer while you stay in the country. The visa was sold as temporary. Now it actually is. Companies used that grace period as a revolving door. Drop one worker, park him here, pick up another. American applicants never got a clean shot because the replacement was already on the ground. Ending the grace period slams that door. Job gone, status gone, leave. This is how a temporary worker program is supposed to work. Come for the contract, finish the contract, go home. ICE does not need to chase people who follow the terms.
