So Close But Missing Out
Mark 10:17, 21-22
“And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?… Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me. And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.”
This man found the answer to his question but he rejected the answer. He possessed riches and prestige. He had religion and did good deeds (Mark 10:18-20). But he knew he lacked one thing that money, prestige, and religion could not give him. He lacked eternal life. He asked Jesus what he could do to obtain eternal life but when Jesus gave him the answer of the terms, he became sad and went away grieved. He was so close to obtaining eternal life but missed out. There has been a million others like this man and there are even more today who hear the truth of eternal life but miss out. Why? They reject the terms of salvation given by Jesus Christ.
Romans 10:9-10 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
