Pleasant Productions The World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., was vandalized Thursday after someone spray-painted Clean hands, dirty $ across the granite and poured soap into the fountain, filling part of the memorial with bubbles. The memorial honors the roughly 400,000 Americans who died and the 16 million who served in the U.S. armed forces during World War II.Federal prosecutors say Melissa L. Farris has now been arrested and charged with depredation against federal property and destruction of veterans memorials. The charges can carry penalties of up to 10 years in prison.Whatever political message was intended, officials and veterans groups say a memorial dedicated to Americans who fought and died in World War II is not the place to spray-paint a message.
