National Mall and Memorial Parks It's been six years since the Great American Outdoors Act became law. At the Tidal Basin, its impact is easy to see.The #GAOA funded reconstruction of the Tidal Basin seawall strengthened the shoreline around the nearby memorials and cherry blossom trees. Much of the original seawall that was built in the late 1800s had settled more than five feet. The result was frequent flooding and damaged walkways.The new seawall is more accessible and more resilient. Thanks to the Great American Outdoors Act, the Tidal Basin is better prepared to welcome visitors today while protecting this landscape for tomorrow. Photos by NPS.
