"AT LEAST HE TRIED" I have witnessed countless displays of God's people trying to do things that they had no business doing, and I have never understood it. I have always known my own limitations, and for the life of me, I don't understand why so many others don't know theirs. Never once in of being saved have I stood up in church and sung a solo. I have no gifted voice whatsoever, so I refuse to torment God's people. I do what I know I can do well, and I leave the rest to others. Yet, far too many insist on forcing themselves on others with things in which they have no gifted skills at all. He butchers "It is well with my soul" in front of a hundred people and folks say, "At least he tried." TRIED? Tried WHAT? Tried what GOD wanted or just what HE wanted, or maybe what his mamma wanted? I recall a particular boy who sang the same song in church EVERY TIME. One Sunday as the music started, a deep voiced deacon leaned over and asked his wife. "Is he gonna sing THAT again?" LOL. If I heard it, lots of people heard it, and it was all because someone was doing something that they didn't need to be doing. I think much of this comes from seeing OTHERS in the spotlight and then coveting it for ourselves This is probably most often true with preaching and singing, but it can happen in other areas as well. The solution is to get our eyes off man and to keep them on God so we can stop comparing ourselves to one another and start ploughing our own rows and being truly fruitful with our own personal gifts and callings. God deserves our best, not mediocre attempts. Some people enjoy the spotlight more than they enjoy being excellent, and that needs to change.
