The young and the naïve are much easier to fool and deceive. To them charisma and charm mean more than character and integrity. It is only after you have been taken advantage that experience teaches you to be cynical enough to gain wisdom. That wisdom should be a prerequisite to voting. This is also why children need direction, education and training. Freedom of choice should also carry the same prerequisite. The primary job of being a parent is to teach your children that wisdom you have gained from your experience so that they may not have to suffer the pain and consequences of making the same mistakes as you in order to learn what not to do. Unfortunately, too many parents are too lazy, incompetent and/or careless to do their job. This is one of the major underling faults of our civilization and the family unit.
