THE HORROR OF FOLLOWING SELF“In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.” — Judges 21:25 KJVJudges (the Old Testament book) ends in moral corruption, violence, ruined families, and national chaos. Why? Because every man became his own authority. How gullible must we be to trust our feelings over the God who created us? The heart will call lust “love,” rebellion “freedom,” pride “self-worth,” and disobedience “my truth.” Yet the Bible warns, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked” (Jeremiah 17:9).Following self may feel liberating, but it is slavery to a lying heart. “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death” (Proverbs 14:12).God’s laws are not cruel restrictions; they are merciful warnings placed between us and destruction. When feelings contradict Scripture, your feelings are wrong. When culture contradicts God, culture is wrong.Stop asking, “What feels right to me?” Ask, “What saith the scripture?”You are either denying self and following Christ—or denying Christ and following self.
