I am not going to sugarcoat this. Let’s be honest. The international student system has become another loophole that many people use to enter this country for reasons that have little to do with education. Many of these individuals are not coming here primarily to study. They come under the international student category and then end up driving trucks, working at Tim Hortons, doing deliveries, or taking other entry-level jobs that should be available to young Canadians who have just graduated and are trying to gain experience and earn an income. On top of that, many international students are exploited by employers. Some work for less than the legal wage, work for free, or accept abusive conditions because they believe it will help them obtain permanent residency. Some live in severely overcrowded housing, with many people sharing the same home, because the entire system has become unaffordable and open to abuse. I do not believe this system is benefiting Canada in its current form. Our young people deserve opportunities, support, and a fair chance to succeed. Instead, they are competing in an overcrowded job market while wages are pushed down and housing becomes even harder to find. There are also private colleges, online schools, recruiters, consultants, employers, and other businesses making large amounts of money from international students. Some charge tens of thousands of dollars while providing poor education, limited support, and qualifications that may have little value. In many cases, the student is treated as a source of money rather than someone receiving a proper education. The international student program should be about education. A genuine international student should arrive with the financial ability to pay tuition and support themselves without immediately depending on several jobs just to survive. When someone pays $40,000 or $50,000 to obtain admission and a visa, then begins working multiple jobs immediately after arriving, it raises serious questions about the real purpose of the program. I know some people will take this in the wrong direction because they personally benefit from the current system. Recruiters and immigration consultants who make thousands of dollars bringing people into Canada will be angry. Employers who exploit vulnerable workers and pay them less than they should will be angry. Owners of questionable colleges will be angry. Anyone profiting from a broken system will not want people talking about it. This is not about race, nationality, or personal feelings. It is about Canada, the future of this country, and the future of our children. Canadian youth deserve a fair opportunity to find work, gain experience, afford housing, and build a successful future. The system has too many loopholes and too little enforcement. It is being abused by institutions, employers, recruiters, and some applicants. It is time to speak honestly about it and fix it. Open-border policies and uncontrolled population growth have contributed to many of the pressures Canada is facing, including housing shortages, overcrowded classrooms, strained healthcare, reduced job opportunities, and lower wages.
