Christians Like BarnabasActs 11:22-25 “Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch. Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord. For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord. Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul:” Barnabas is mentioned often in the book of Acts. God used this man in the early history of the New Testament church. When the church did not know if they should trust a newly saved Saul of Tarsus, Barnabas encouraged them to give him a chance. In our text he is sent to see if the move of God in Antioch was true or not. Immediately his heart was knitted with these believers in Antioch and people were saved. Later when a sharp division rose between Paul and John Mark, he brought a calm to the situation by taking John Mark with him. We know of Barnabas as an encourager. His name means the son of consolation. He lived up to his name, but he was much more than this. He was a man who could be trusted, a mature Christian, and a peace maker. If only the church today had more men like Barnabas. What type of Christian are you?
