Montana did something most states never did.It placed a promise directly into its state constitution.A promise that Native American history, culture and heritage should never be forgotten.Through Indian Education for All, students across Montana are taught about the history, cultures, traditions and modern lives of Indigenous peoples.And this education is for everyone.Not only Native students.Every student.Because Native American history is not a separate chapter of American history.It is part of the story of America itself.Montana is home to tribal nations with unique languages, traditions, histories and identities.These cultures are not relics of the past.They are alive.Native communities are still here.Still raising families.Still speaking their languages.Still practicing traditions.Still protecting stories passed down through generations.Montana understood something important.You cannot expect people to respect a culture they were never taught about.You cannot protect history by allowing it to disappear from classrooms.And you cannot build understanding by teaching only one side of the story.Education can change that.When children learn the true history of the land around them, stereotypes lose their power.Understanding grows.Respect grows.And forgotten stories have a chance to be remembered.Native American history is American history.What do you think every student in the United States should be taught about Indigenous history and culture?
