Justin FerulloI really hate that I am about to destroy my algorithm, but I watched a speech the other day from a dude in New York City where he described Muhammad as an immigrant who fled Mecca and was welcomed into Medina.Here is the part he left out.Medina was not an entirely Jewish city, but it was home to three major Jewish tribes when Muhammad arrived, making up roughly 40% of the population. Within about five years, two of those tribes had been expelled. After the conflict with the third, traditional accounts say the men were executed and the women and children were enslaved.So when you use Muhammad’s migration to Medina as a heartwarming comparison for modern immigration, it seems worth mentioning what happened to the people who were already living there.Because if people were told that roughly 40% of the population would eventually be killed, enslaved, or forced from their homes, I am not sure they would be opening their arms quite as enthusiastically.Interesting man to compare yourself to.Interesting moment to make that comparison.
