"SEEKING WHOM HE MAY DEVOUR" "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:" (1 Peter 5:8)We see from this verse that the LIAR isn't confined to his LAIR, yet. He's on the prowl and has been for a good while now going up and down and all around the world while wearing a sneer similar to that old cartoon villain, Snidley Whiplash, and making the same old foolish promises as a politician would while running for re-election.Ever since the day that serpent started hissing away at Eve in the Garden trying to persuade her to think that she and Adam would be better off listening to his words instead of God's; he's been rounding up folks to join his parade and march to the beat of his own deceitful drum. His desire is to be like God. He wants our lives, our loyalty, and our loved ones and he'll stop at nothing to get them! After 40 days, he pulled out all the stops and dipped into his dirty bag of tricks when he thought our Lord was down for the count there in the wilderness. But he quickly found that his bag had a hole in it because there he is face to face with the King of Kings and Lord of Lords Who stood tall and true with His sights set on Calvary and His heart filled with the Word of God showing us how we too can have victory. Sure, Jesus was hungry. Yes, He was weary. Of course, He was suffering like none other. He was tempted in all points like we are, but His perfect soul endured all the way to the cross to pay the price for our redemption. You know, Satan's lips speak but one language, and it's the language of lies. His mouth utters nothing, but words wrapped in wretchedness. He's the founder of falsehood, the way of wickedness, and the deceiver from damnation. His platform is a rejection of righteousness, and his agenda is to haul humanity down to Hell and he's still that same old lying lion at large today roaring his rubbish. As we journey along on our Lord's Highway of Holiness, let us be sure that the devil is never our traveling companion. For he will never want to simply ride along, his desire will be to take the wheel and steer us to ruin and, in the end, wreck our testimony. One day the devil is going to stamp people with his number because that's all they are to him, a number! But we know he's a defeated foe and it's his days are numbered. Thank the Lord, who knows each of us, not by some number, but by our name (John 10:3).Friends, never assist the devil. James 4:7 tells us to "resist the devil and he will flee from you." Be on your guard and stay alert. Don't be one of the NUMBERED who's been fooled by Satan, be one of the NAMED who follows the Saviour.
