America currently holds the advantage in advanced models, cutting-edge chips, investment, talent, and the computing infrastructure needed to push AI forward.Beijing knows it cannot easily beat us in a fair race, so its best opportunity is to convince America to tie its own hands.China’s aggressive open-source strategy is not an act of generosity. It is a way to distribute Chinese technology quickly, build global dependence on its systems, and compensate for models that have often lagged behind the best American products. Giving models away is one way to gain users when customers may not otherwise pay for them.Meanwhile, politicians, activists, unions, and professional alarmists in America are demanding that we block data centers, punish successful AI companies, restrict investment, and bury innovation under layers of regulation.Who benefits from that?Certainly not American workers, entrepreneurs, consumers, or national security.If China races ahead while America deliberately slows down, the consequences will reach far beyond chatbots. AI will shape military systems, medicine, manufacturing, intelligence, energy, finance, education, and nearly every major industry of the future.The country that dominates AI could become the dominant global power for generations.Giving away America’s advantage would be an absolute disgrace. The american people spent decades building the world’s greatest innovation economy, only to have politicians threaten it because activists have discovered another fashionable cause.Some of the people pushing this agenda may understand exactly whom their policies would help. Others are simply useful idiots, repeating anti-technology talking points without considering the geopolitical consequences.Either way, the result is the same. China advances, America retreats, and our children inherit a weaker country.This is not the time to pull the plug on American innovation.
