This is Kai Tesoro. He was 17 months old. On 1 June 2024, responding paramedics found him unresponsive at his mother’s apartment in the custody of his mother’s boyfriend, Christian Rabino. He was rushed to the hospital, where he died five days later. Autopsy results revealed horrific abuse. The examining physician described it as “one of the worst cases” he’d ever seen. Kai’s legs were broken; police suspected that Rabino had become angry at the toddler’s inability to walk and slammed his feet on the floor hard enough to break both of the child’s legs. Kai also had significant brain trauma and hemorrhaging, severe bruising spanning his forehead, ears, and ribs; and internal trauma to his eyes consistent with being violently shaken back and forth. Rabino was charged with first degree murder, but there was a problem: the homicide took place in Clark County, NV — and the DA there is Steve Wolfson. Need I say more? In late 2025, Rabino was allowed to make an Alford plea — this means admitting no guilt, but admitting that the DA had enough evidence for a conviction — to a reduced charge of voluntary manslaughter. He got five years’ probation. Five years’ probation, for torturing a baby to death, all signed off on by DA Steve Wolfson and District Judge Jaqueline Bluth, who reluctantly chose to allow the plea bargain to proceed. Instead of incarceration, Rabino will be required to attend six weeks of anger management classes. Kai Tesoro should be almost four. See less
