WHAT THE WORLD SAYS CAN RUIN YOUR LIFE The world says, “Follow your heart.” But the Bible warns, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked” (Jeremiah 17:9). A heart that is not governed by God’s Word will lead you toward what you desire—not necessarily toward what is right. The world says, “Be true to yourself.” Yet Jesus never commanded us to celebrate ourselves; He commanded us to deny ourselves. The world says, “Do what makes you happy,” but sin also brings temporary pleasure. Moses chose God rather than “the pleasures of sin for a season” (Hebrews 11:25). Temporary happiness can produce lifelong sorrow. The world says, “Just be a good person.” But Scripture declares, “There is none righteous, no, not one” (Romans 3:10). Being respectable cannot remove sin, save the soul, or replace faith in Jesus Christ. Good works are important, but they are not the Saviour.Our response to these worldly sayings reveals what our hearts truly desire. Do we want God’s will, or merely His permission to pursue our own? Faith does not ask, “What will make me happy?” Faith asks, “What has God said?” Jesus warned, “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” (Mark 8:36). Following your heart may cost you your life. Following the world may cost you your soul. Follow Christ.
