AK Houchen This isn’t MyMEME but it is my experience in NYC Public School back in the 1970’s. My 4th grade homeroom teacher, Mr. Hasner, told us how the market works in Soviet Russia vs America. I believe one of his parents was from a communist country. He said in the USSR you have fewer choices at the store. Products stay in the market until they are all sold out. Fresh apples were offered in the first hour. Apples that weren’t purchased sat in the market until they were thoroughly rotten. Someone had to buy them, and someone hungry enough would. There were plenty of people hungry enough to buy apples or any kind. He shared other examples, but that basic lesson stuck with me to this day. His lesson didn’t need constant reminders or reinforcement because it tracked with reality and human nature. People will not work as hard for the state as they would for themselves and their self interests. Capitalism allows individuals to channel their self interests into goods, products and services that benefit society.
