Jesus Christ The Same Hebrews 13:8 “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” Through the years people change. Sometimes that change is for the good. Sometimes places like businesses, and schools, and churches also change over the course of years. Our verse gives us the wonderful promise that Jesus Christ remains the same. In theological terms we call this the immutability of Jesus Christ. Immutability means Unchangeableness; the quality that renders change or alteration impossible (Webster’s 1828 Dictionary). We hear a lot in preaching and through books about the Jesus Christ of yesterday and the Jesus Christ of the future. But what thrills me today is He is the same today! And where I am in my life today He is the same as He was yesterday and He will remain the same in the future forever. He is more than just consistent, He is faithful. He has never changed His Word. It is forever settled (Psalm 119:89). Whatever His Word was yesterday it remains the same today. The promises He made yesterday remains a promise today. Whenever I go to bed I can rest assured that when the sun rises in the morning Jesus Christ will be the same! In an ever changing, chaotic, and insane world the truth that Jesus Christ is the same gives the believer absolute assurance that Jesus’s love remains the same. It gives absolute assurance that His power and ability is the same. It gives absolute assurance that He will forgive us of any sin (1 John 1:9) and that all His promises are true.
