TRUMP’S 250-FOOT TRIUMPHAL ARCH MAY NEED REVISIONS BEFORE FINAL APPROVALA scale model of President Trump’s proposed Triumphal Arch was shown during a National Capital Planning Commission hearing in Washington, D.C.The proposed monument would stand 250 feet tall at Memorial Circle, with a 166-foot mezzanine, a 24-foot observation level, and a 60-foot Lady Liberty statue on top.But the commission said the design may violate the 1910 Heights of Buildings Act, which limits buildings in Washington, D.C., to 130 feet in order to preserve the city’s skyline. The Department of the Interior argued in a memo that the law “does not apply to federal buildings.”The National Capital Planning Commission pushed back, saying it has “historically held that the Height of Buildings Act is binding on federal buildings.”But the commission also offered a compromise.Lower the mezzanine and observation level, then add the remaining height to the statue of Lady Liberty. That would make Lady Liberty 100 feet tall while keeping the overall arch at 250 feet.If built, Trump’s arch would tower over the 99-foot Lincoln Memorial and become one of the largest arches in the world.Critics raised concerns about the public process, the D.C. skyline, and whether the monument would obstruct views near Arlington Cemetery. But others see it as a bold America 250 monument honoring the country’s strength, history, and future.Personally, I think the idea is fascinating.A massive Triumphal Arch with Lady Liberty on top would definitely make a statement in the nation’s capital. What do you think of the proposed design?
