This is what happens when the atmosphere supports persistent contrails.. ✈️☁️A contrail forming behind an aircraft is only the beginning of the process. If the aircraft is flying through an ice supersaturated region, the surrounding air contains enough water vapour to sustain the ice crystals rather than causing them to evaporate.The result is the contrail persists.. ❄️☁️ Winds, wind shear and atmospheric turbulence then spread, distort and transport those ice crystals. Individual trails can widen, overlap and eventually become difficult to distinguish from naturally occurring cirrus cloud. With enough air traffic passing through suitable atmospheric conditions, multiple persistent contrails can contribute to larger areas of contrail cirrus.And this is where conspiracy pages perform their favourite magic trick 🎩😂 They photograph the sky several hours later, ignore every aircraft that passed through the region, ignore the atmospheric conditions, ignore decades of contrail research and announce:“PLANES SPRAYED SOMETHING AND NOW THE SKY IS CLOUDY!”No. You watched ice crystals persist, spread and evolve in an atmosphere capable of sustaining them.
