Growing in Christ After TraumaMost of us pray, "Lord, remove this trial." Yet many times God has a greater purpose. Instead of removing the tribulation, He provides His comfort in the tribulation. "Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulations” — 2 Corinthians 1:3–4 (KJV) Notice what Paul did not say. He did not say God removes all our tribulation. He said God comforteth us in all our tribulation. There is a difference. If every trial disappeared the moment we prayed, there would be little opportunity for faith to grow, patience to develop, or our dependence upon Christ to deepen. God's comfort is not merely meant to ease our pain—it is meant to strengthen our walk with Him. In His comfort we discover His faithfulness, His presence, and His sufficient grace. Paul also reminds us that God's comfort has a purpose: "...that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble..." (2 Corinthians 1:4). The comfort you receive today may become the very comfort you share with someone tomorrow. Don't measure God's love by the absence of tribulation. Measure it by His faithful presence in the midst of it. The God of all comfort is growing you into the image of Christ, and He never wastes the trials He allows.
