Plus another $850,000 from a federal nutrition program tied to the massive $250 million Feeding Our Future scandal.
The 50-year-old CEO of Future Leaders "Early Learing [sic] Center" in Minneapolis admitted to submitting more than 13,000 fraudulent claims between October 2022 and December 2025.
She falsely certified that her center collected copayments from low-income families, a required condition for getting taxpayer reimbursement.
She then pocketed the tax dollars meant to help working parents afford childcare.
Details:
🔷️Mahamud's center claimed to serve up to 60,000 meals each month, but prosecutors say those meals were never provided.
🔷️She diverted hundreds of thousands from that scheme into real estate purchases.
🔷️She stole around $5.5 million and owes restitution.
🔷️Her center received $3.7 million in state assistance in one recent year alone, more than any other provider in Minnesota.
🔷️The daycare, located near George Floyd Square, closed in January after the fraud was exposed.

🔷️Mahamud had tried to book a flight out of the country right after shutting it down.
🔷️She was charged in February as the 79th defendant in the Somali migrant Feeding Our Future scheme.
🔷️Mahamud was released on conditional bond pending sentencing, which has not yet been scheduled.
