Solomon’s Prayer
1 Kings 8:54
“And it was so, that when Solomon had made an end of praying all this prayer and supplication unto the LORD, he arose from before the altar of the LORD, from kneeling on his knees with his hands spread up to heaven.”
It has been said that the spiritual thermometer of a Christian is his or her prayer life. I have also heard a similar saying about the church. The spiritual thermometer of a church is its prayer meeting. Solomon’s prayer begins in verse 22 and ends in verse 54. Some would say it is a long prayer. But personally I believe one’s prayer life should never be measured by the length of their prayers. I know this, that anytime I hear or read anything about prayer I come away convicted because I know it is an area of my life that I can improve on. And by improve on, I mean I can pray more often, more fervent, more earnest and not just go through the motions. When I read Solomon’s prayer I immediately noticed his fervency and his heart for God’s people, the sins of his nation, and the house of worship.
Maybe if our prayer life was what it should be then we would see a Godly change in America and our church services would be what God intended for them to be. How is your prayer life? Reading Solomon’s prayer and writing this devotion convinces me once again I need to improve my prayer time before God.
