SURRENDER AND COMPROMISE: THE ROAD TO LOSING A NATION"Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free..." — Galatians 5:1 (KJV) Freedom is rarely lost in a single moment. It is usually surrendered one compromise at a time. But before a nation surrenders its liberties, it first surrenders its convictions. Political compromise is only the fruit—the root is biblical compromise. When a people surrender God's Word, they soon surrender absolute truth. When truth is compromised, righteousness gives way to convenience. When righteousness is abandoned, courage is replaced with comfort, responsibility with entitlement, and faith with fear. What begins as a spiritual compromise eventually becomes a political surrender. Israel followed this same pattern. They first compromised with the nations around them, tolerated idolatry, ignored God's commandments, and rejected His prophets. Only afterward did they lose their liberty and come under the rule of foreign powers. Their political bondage began with spiritual surrender. The same danger faces every nation. A people who compromise biblical truth will eventually compromise moral truth. A people who surrender moral truth will ultimately surrender personal freedom. When a nation no longer looks to God for security, it will look to government instead. That path leads away from liberty and toward increasing control. Scripture tells us that this progression will ultimately culminate in the global rule of the Antichrist (2 Thessalonians 2; Revelation 13). The answer is not found first in Washington, but in our hearts. Revival begins when God's people refuse to surrender His truth and refuse to compromise His Word. Homes, churches, and individuals must once again stand upon the authority of Scripture.May we never forget that every political surrender is preceded by a spiritual compromise. If we desire to preserve liberty for future generations, we must first remain faithful to the God who is the Author of true freedom.
