"A LIFETIME OF WITNESSING GOD'S FAITHFULNESS"
"I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread." (Psalm 37:25)
David was a man of action, a prominent king, and a longtime servant of God. This was not a man who lacked experience. Neither was David one who hid in a corner somewhere when the battles raged, or one who had recently joined the ranks of godly men. His testimony was that in all his years of service, and in the great variety of the problems he faced, he never, even once, saw the righteous forsaken or left alone uncared for!
But there seems to be even more behind David’s statement here than a mere observation. He admits that he is now old. He has seen many other saints grow old and even die throughout his lifetime. And now that he is facing old age himself, he looks back on his past in order to draw comfort for his present.
Yes, God was faithful to David, and He will be faithful to each of us. He has never yet failed to make good on any of His promises. He was there with you during the challenges of youth, and He will be there with you during the changes of old age. Therefore, be not dismayed aging one, for we, like David, can continue to tread that path holding high the promises of God.
You know folks, the closing years of life can be peaceful, productive, and one filled with pleasure. No man or woman of God should ever dwell on what could have been, nor do they need to make themselves miserable by developing a bitter and complaining spirit over what might have been. For you see, God gives us the whole of life to live and enjoy His blessings, not just a little dab will do ya here and there.
Friends, if you want a fruitful life and one that flourishes till your last breath is drawn, then thank the Lord today and trust the Lord for tomorrow, because young or old, He has promised He will be ever faithful and never forsake you!
