The reason they destroyed/shredded all of the F-14s taken out of service was because Iran needed spare parts for them and used fake companies to procure them. Before the radical Islamists took over Iran, the Shah was in power and an ally to most countries including Israel. The U.S. sold him the F-14s. But after the Islamic radicals took over, they decided to destroy all of the rest of these iconic aircraft to prevent the radical, hostile government of Iran from keeping those planes flying.
