Preach… But They Will Not 2 Timothy 4:2-4 “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.” To say we are living in very strange days is a great understatement. There is a host of strange doctrines out there in the world of religion. Being in the position that I am in, where I travel from church to church, I hear more often of these falsehoods. This gives proof of why it is so vitally important and needed that pastors, teachers, and preachers teach and preach the Word of God. Church leaders must be sure that true Bible doctrine is being taught within their local church. Not too long ago at lunch, a pastor commented to me, “You preach straight Bible.” I took it as a compliment but I am not sure it was given for the intention of a compliment. It is a strange day in the church when expositional style of preaching and teaching is questioned and or viewed as boring. Our text is clearly stating the importance of preaching the Word of God. It is the only true way to help the Christian to identify and shun false doctrine. Titus 1:9“Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.” Why do you suppose that so many are leaving the church and going after strange doctrine?
