He Took. I Received.=> 2 Corinthians 5:21 - "For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” The gospel is beautifully simple because it is entirely centered on what Christ did, not on what we do. On Calvary, He took what belonged to me—my sin, my guilt, my condemnation, and the judgment my sins deserved. In exchange, I received what I could never earn—His righteousness. => That is the great exchange of the cross. <=Jesus did not die to make salvation possible if I could somehow finish the work. He finished the work Himself. Salvation is not the reward for my efforts; it is the gift I receive by faith in the finished work of Christ. This truth destroys every form of works-based salvation. If Christ took my sin completely, what sin remains for me to pay for? If I have received His righteousness, what righteousness can I possibly add? Any attempt to earn God's acceptance by good works, religious rituals, or personal merit suggests that Christ's sacrifice was somehow incomplete. Yet the Scriptures declare otherwise: "It is finished" (John 19:30). His work is complete, perfect, and sufficient forever. The Christian life does not begin with what I do for God—it begins with what Christ has already done for me. Good works have their proper place, but they are the fruit of salvation, never the price of it. We obey because we have been saved, not in order to be saved. The cross forever reminds us that He took, and by faith I received. Every ounce of glory belongs to Jesus Christ, for salvation is entirely of His grace and not of our works."For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." (Ephesians 2:8–9 KJV)
