My Time With God
Psalms 5:1-3
“Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation. Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray. My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.”
The Psalmist David writes to us here of how he prayed and looked unto God each morning. It was his time with God. Each morning he was conscious of the fact that he was meeting with God.
Do you have such a meeting?
How can one hope to walk with God, be a Godly Christian, and say no in the face of temptation but bypass a daily time with God?
I hear people talk about their “me time”. To me the phrase sounds a little anti-Christian. Unless of course, the one who says it is referring to their time with God. But then it would be better to call it “my time with God”.
Here is what my time with God looks like. First thing, every morning, I open the Bible, read it, making sure to include a chapter from the book of Proverbs in that reading time. I try to think with purpose about what I am reading. My goal in reading the Bible is not reading it through but allowing God to speak to me as I read it. Sometimes I journal my thoughts. I try to also read a devotion written by the late Vance Havner, God uses his thoughts to help me. I finish this time with meaningful prayer. I have a prayer list I pray through. While in this time with God I try to keep the consciousness that this is a meeting with the holy God of Heaven. If you are wondering where to find the time to do this? I make it! If I need to leave out very early in the morning, I get up earlier.
I have not arrived to where I need to be with God. I live with, as everyone does, a sinful nature. This is all the more reason of why I need my time with God. If I could give only one piece of counsel to help one in their marriage, in their family relationships, in their church relationship, or in their Christianity it would be to have a “my time with God”.
Do you have a daily time in which you are conscious of the fact that you are meeting with God?
If not make it!
