A Pennsylvania town is fighting to stop 51 data centers.
In Archbald, Pennsylvania, residents are raising the alarm over plans for dozens of data center buildings in a town of about 7,000 people.
According to More Perfect Union and The Cool Down, the proposed buildout could include 51 data center facilities and cover nearly 14% of Archbald.
For some residents, the threat is immediate.
At Valley View Estates Mobile Park, tenants have reportedly received eviction notices. In one video, a resident said she was scared she might become homeless, while another speaker said local agencies warned housing help might not be available for years.
That is why the fight has become about more than technology.
Data centers are the physical backbone of the AI boom. They hold rows of computer servers that run day and night, processing data, training models, and powering online tools.
But they also require land, electricity, cooling systems, transmission lines, roads, and in some cases large amounts of water.
Residents say the Archbald proposals could bring deforestation, wildlife displacement, industrial noise, pressure on local infrastructure, and the loss of affordable housing. One nearby project reportedly cleared 180 acres (73 hectares) of forest before approval.
The scale is what shocks many locals.
This is not one warehouse on the edge of town. Residents are talking about dozens of large industrial buildings, some reportedly planned to be about 80 feet (24 meters) tall.
Supporters of data centers often argue that they bring investment, jobs, and tax revenue.
But critics say small towns can be left carrying the costs while outside developers collect the profits.
After community opposition grew, more than half of the borough council reportedly resigned, and one proposed data center project was rejected.

Project Hamilton will be announced on July the fourth. It s where they re going to use these data centers to go to a digital currency in the united states. Monitor and keep track of every dollar you spend. So these data centers are necessary in this town and they will just have to get used to it.

Some things to think about. They are going to destroy 180 acres of forest in order to put up the data centers. So where are all the animal and environmental activists? These data centers have long-lasting bad effects on people and the environment. Don't they care anymore, or are they too busy cashing... View More
