WE NEVER MISS PRACTICE... BUT SOMEHOW WE MISS GOD We make sure our children get to practice on time. We rearrange our schedules for games and tournaments. We spend money on equipment, uniforms, travel, and training. We want them to succeed, and there is nothing wrong with that. The problem comes when we give more attention to the field than we do to the faith. Many children can quote sports statistics but cannot quote a Bible verse. They know the names of athletes but know little about the Saviour. They are trained to compete, but not taught to pray. They are prepared for a game, but not prepared for eternity. Jesus said: "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." (Matthew 6:33 KJV)Notice He did not say to seek God second, third, or whenever convenient. He said, "Seek ye first."Sports can develop discipline, teamwork, and character, but they cannot forgive sin. They cannot save a soul. They cannot prepare a child to stand before God. One day the practices will end. One day the games will be over. One day the trophies will gather dust. But the soul of your child will live forever. If we train our children for the field but neglect their soul, we have prepared them for time and ignored eternity.Parents, grandparents, and churches must never forget that the greatest victory is not won on a scoreboard. The greatest victory is won when a boy or girl comes to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. Trophies gather dust. The soul lives forever.
