"WHY IS DEATH PRECIOUS?"
"Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints." (Psalm 116:15)
The Bible teaches us here from this verse that the death of any of God's children is precious in our Lord's eyes. You say our DEATH IS PRECIOUS? No, the Bible says it's precious, I just happen to be one of those easy-going guys that believes what the Bible says. If the Word of God says that death is precious in our Lord's sight, then I'll lay aside what I think about it and take up what He said about it.
Now how can death be considered precious? Well, that's a great question and it's one that deserves a great answer. The Bible teaches us that death brings an END to many things that we as Christians struggle with on a daily basis. Let me offer you three of them.
First of all, death brings an END to our earthly FAITH.
While on earth, the Bible tells us in 2 Corinthians 5:7, "For we walk by faith, not by sight:" Here we walk by faith, oh but in Heaven, we shall walk by sight. We shall be like Him for we shall see Him as He is. Since the Lord Jesus lives within in our body of flesh, we are living by that faith that He is in us. Paul tells us in Galatians 2:20. "I am crucified with Christ: neverthless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me." When you and I exercise faith in the Person and promises of God, let me say, that please Him greatly (Hebrews 11:6).
Next, we find that death brings an END to our earthly FRAME.
These bodies we now live in are dying. If I were to have that statement printed on the front page of any newspaper, it certainly wouldn't be an eye-catching story, would it? Nonetheless, it's true! As we age, we find these houses we now reside in are subject to disease, decay, and finally death. I don't know about you, but it seems that I awaken each morning with a new dose of aches and pains in places I didn't know I could get aches and pains in this ole frame I live in. For many, that's an on and off situation and yet for some, it lasts for years. But we as Christians can hang our hearts on and a truth, we can look forward to. Death brings an end to the suffering of our earthly frames. Again, the Bible tells us in 1 Corinthians 15: 53-54, "For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So, when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory." Yes, one soon to be glorious day, death will bring an end to our earthly frames because "Death is swallowed up in victory." Now I ask you again, isn't that precious?
Then we find that death brings an END to our earthy FIGHT.
If you're a child of God, you're in for a fight. Every day we are in a battle, and for some, it can turn into an all-out brawl. The Bible tells us in Ephesians 6:12, "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." Our fight is not with each other. Many times, it looks like it as we scroll along on Facebook, but no, our fight is with the devil and his demons and all the temptations and taunts they love throwing at us. Those dear family members and friends of ours lying motionless there in that casket were daily warring in their fight against evil and wickedness. They went home to be with their Saviour and their fight is over, and they fought a good fight. As the apostle Paul came to the end of his life, with the breath of God blowing from Heaven, he penned these words, "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing." (2 Timothy 4:7-8)
Friends, one day, God will bring an END to our FAITH, our FRAME, and our FIGHT and that's why our death as His saints is precious to Him. Now I ask you, isn't all that precious? Yes, indeed, because each of us as a child of God are precious to Him.
