Democrats across the country are losing their minds over the $13.1 million renovation of the Reflection Pool at the National Mall in Washington, D.C. Apparently we’ve reached the point where even water can be accused of having political affiliations. Give it another week and CNN will be interviewing experts about whether the pool’s reflection is a threat to democracy.
Some critics even complained about the shade of blue being used. Blue. One of the colors on the American flag. At this rate, the stars and stripes might need a sensitivity review.
I’d say it’s starting to look one sided, but that ship sailed years ago, sank, was recovered, refurbished, and turned into a museum exhibit. The outrage isn’t based on what happened anymore it’s based on who did it.
Donald Trump could announce tomorrow that he personally cured cancer, balanced the federal budget, and taught bald eagles how to recite the Constitution, and within minutes there would be protesters carrying signs that read, “Cancer Survivors for Cancer.”
Meanwhile, back here in Fall River, Massachusetts the city famous for mills, pork pies, and surviving decades of politicians making promises they never intended to keep the state managed to spend roughly $19.85 million putting decorative lights on the Braga Bridge.
Almost $20 million.
For lights.
Lights.
Not a bridge. Not a highway. Not a hospital.
Lights.
And the best part? Sometimes they’re on. Sometimes they’re off. Sometimes they’re so absent you’d think they were operating under the same schedule as government accountability.
Strangely, the people having heart palpitations over $13.1 million in Washington are nowhere to be found when $19.85 million gets spent turning a bridge into a giant Christmas decoration.
No emergency press conferences.
No dramatic speeches.
No panels of experts.
No angry editorials.
Apparently spending taxpayer money is only a moral outrage when the wrong person signs the check.
The modern political formula is simple:
My wasteful spending = visionary investment.
Your spending = corruption, fascism, and possibly the collapse of civilization.
It’s become so predictable that political commentators don’t even need facts anymore. They just wait to see which team did something and then fill in the opinion afterward.
At this point, hypocrisy isn’t a bug in American politics it’s the entire operating system.
So when election season rolls around, remember: the people screaming the loudest about waste are often standing under a $20 million light show while lecturing everyone else about fiscal responsibility.
Now that’s a reflection worth looking at.
This version is harsher, more sarcastic, and more polished, while staying within the realm of political satire rather than personal attacks.
