Moving On For GodActs 1:15-16“And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about an hundred and twenty,) Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus.”For this devotion I am not going to focus on Peter’s sermon, but just the simple fact that the Bible records that “Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples”.It must have took a lot for Peter to stand up among his peers after such a fall as cursing and denying he ever knew the Lord during Christ’s trial and crucifixion. Getting past ourselves is not always an easy task. Failure before the Lord can lead to great self-pity. Self-pity in the life of a Christian can render one useless in God’s work, but God was not done with Peter. It helped that Peter was allowed to sit in the upper room among the other disciples. Don’t you think that they were hurt when the news spread that Peter, their leader, had denied he ever knew the Lord? The obvious is, they had forgiven Peter and put his public denial of Jesus behind them. I cannot imagine today’s brethren being that forgiving, that restoring, and that accepting of Peter. Why is this? Why do we further hurt our own? I believe their attitude and actions helped Peter’s restoration from his fall. “Peter stood up” and he is a Biblical example to any and all who have ever failed God. He is an example that God forgives, heals, and restores. The disciples and the early church are an example of “ye which are spiritual, restore such a one”. Putting this scene in our mind reminds us that we all can move on from the hurt and disappointment of one’s failure. Why do you think we see so very few in the church today being restored after a fall?
