Pleasing Him2 Timothy 2:3-5“Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.”As a Christian, and especially a Christian who is also a preacher, I think it is easy to get misplaced in mind about who we are seeking to please. The preacher must ask himself, who am I trying to please? The Christian must ask his or herself why do I do what I do for the Lord? There is much to consider.We must be careful that we do not allow ourselves to get entangled with the affairs of this life. At the Judgment Seat of Christ every Christian is going to find out what really mattered. I am sure that every Christian will find out in that day that some of the things we allowed ourselves to get caught up in, did not mean a thing to God. And that goes also for every preacher and his preferences. We preachers will find out that some of what we did, we did because we wanted to please and impress the brethren.We must also see that we strive in the work for our Lord lawfully. There is a right way to do things for Him who has chosen us. The right is His way and the only way He will accept our work for Him. It is going to be sad at the Judgement Seat of Christ to see some of our works not accepted by Him because we sought to take a different route. David was reminded with great pain that there is only one way God would accept the Ark of the Covenant to be moved. A man died because David took a short cut. May we learn from David’s actions.How well do you desire to please God?
