The PurgingJohn 15:1-2 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit… I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing… Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.” It is the will of our Heavenly Father that every Christian bear much fruit. In our verses Jesus tells us that bearing much fruit glorifies our Father. Each year an orchardist will purge his trees in order that they may grow better, larger fruit. The goal in purging fruit trees is not quantity but better quality. Likewise, this is the goal of our Heavenly Father, so He puts the Christian through a purging. The word “purgeth” means to cleanse, to prune the useless shoots away. Is there anything in your life that God is seeking to remove, to purge away, so that you may bear much (better) fruit? May we, by faith totally yield ourselves to His care for us so that we may bear better fruit for His glory.
