Romans 1:28 "And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;"One of the strangest contradictions in human nature is that people often insist on their sins while despising the consequences of those sins. They want drunkenness without addiction. They want fornication without heartbreak. They want adultery without a broken home. They want lies without losing trust. They want rebellion without judgment. They want sin without suffering.Yet God has established a law that cannot be escaped: Galatians 6:7 "Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap."Romans 1 teaches a frightening truth. When people continually reject God's truth, God may eventually allow them to have exactly what they insist upon. The judgment is not merely future punishment. Sometimes the judgment begins when God gives a person over to the path they have chosen. The prodigal son insisted on his inheritance, but he despised the pigpen. Samson insisted on Delilah, but he despised blindness and bondage. David insisted on Bathsheba, but he despised the sword that followed his house. Judas insisted on the silver, but he despised the guilt that followed.Many today are no different. They demand the freedom to live as they please, yet become angry when the harvest arrives. They curse the consequences while defending the very sins that produced them.The truth is simple: if a man loves the sin, he should not be surprised when the sin brings sorrow. If a woman embraces rebellion, she should not be shocked when rebellion brings ruin.God's mercy warns us before judgment arrives. The Bible exposes the poison before we drink it. The Lord calls sinners to repentance before destruction comes.The wise person does not merely fear the consequences of sin. He learns to hate the sin that causes them.Proverbs 28:13 "He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.” Do not insist on the sin and then complain about the harvest. Forsake the sin, seek the Lord, and receive the mercy that God freely offers through Jesus Christ.
