Texas officials have filed a lawsuit against Texas American Muslim University, alleging it operated in Richardson without proper state authorization or accreditation.
According to the lawsuit announced by Ken Paxton, the institution allegedly offered bachelor’s and master’s degree programs without official approval from the state of Texas.
The lawsuit also claims the organization used branding and naming that officials argue could create confusion with Texas A&M University, potentially misleading prospective students about degree recognition.
State officials are reportedly seeking more than $1 million in penalties and asking the court to shut the operation down immediately.
The case has sparked debate online about higher education oversight, accreditation standards, consumer protection, and institutional accountability.
