We used to ride our bikes a mile west to one and a mile north to another one. A good score was a dime in each and a great one a quarter. That would buy us our penny bubble gum and candy.

My husband lived in the country. Workers were building the highway and he and his brothers collected a lot of discarded bottles for candy at the store down the road. No pay phones out there. I remember people put pins and razor blades in the change compartment to injure kids years ago.
