"Your Most Valuable Possession"
Kenneth, known for his television series Civilization, lived and died without faith in Jesus Christ. He admitted in his autobiography that while visiting a beautiful church he had what he believed to be an overwhelming religious experience. He wrote, “My whole being was irradiated by a kind of heavenly joy far more intense than anything I had known before."
But the "flood of grace" as he described it, created a problem. If he allowed himself to be influenced by it, he knew he would have to change, his family might think he had lost his mind, and maybe that intense joy would prove to be an illusion. So, he concluded, "I was too deeply embedded in the world to change course."
In other words, he traded his eternal soul for acceptance by a fickle world. I can never quite understand that. I can’t understand the young ruler who came to Jesus eager to join the club, but when put him to the test, he traded his soul for his wealth. Judas Iscariot, who walked with and lived with Jesus for three years, traded his soul for 30 pieces of silver. How in the world can people be so careless about their eternal destiny? Clearly the evil one blinded them to reality, and the ultimate reality is your soul. In the end, nothing else matters. Wealth, power, popularity, pleasure—all vapor. The only thing you leave this life with is your immortal soul.
The soul-conscious will be in church Sunday morning acknowledging Jesus, the keeper of their eternal souls. I hope you’ll be among them.
