For Christ SakeMatthew 10:38-39“And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.”Picking up from yesterday’s devotion, I find another truth that taking up one’s cross speaks of. The cross was an instrument of death. Therefore the cross speaks of those things in your life that you go through because you are a Christian, that God can use to help you to die to your self. The great hindrance in me being all I can be for God is me. I am my greatest hindrance. I need to get out of the way in order to be the Christian God desires for me to be. Christ calls this process loosing your life for His sake. Why was I born? What is my purpose in life? Why did Christ save me?Why did He give me a place in His church? The full answer to these questions become very clear when self is taken out of the way. Paul said in 1 Corinthians 15:31 “I die daily.” The Christian life is to be a replica of Christ and His servanthood . Jesus said in Mark 10:45 “For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.”In Philippians 2:7 we find that Christ “made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant”.No Christian can be a Christ-like servant until he or she first dies to self. We must lose our own self in order to truly find the will of God for Christ sake.
