When Nothing Seems To Work
Psalms 78:32
“For all this they sinned still, and believed not for his wondrous works.”
Psalm 78 is like an abbreviated history lesson of some of God’s dealings with Israel. Verse 32 is a sad commentary on those dealings because it reminds us that for some of them God’s chastisement did not seem to do them any good. No matter how God dealt with them, “they sinned still”. Even when God dealt with them in His wondrous works of kindness and goodness they “believed not”.
It is heartbreaking and sad to watch someone turn away from the goodness of God and continue on in their sin. I find written in the Bible that God uses two things that leads someone to repentance and faith in God. He uses Godly sorrow (2 Corinthians 7:10) and His own goodness (Romans 2:4). If these two things do not bring a person to repentance of their sin and lead them to faith in God nothing will. Allow me to challenge you. Go back in your memory and recall God’s dealings in your life.
Did any of those dealings bring Godly sorrow into your heart?
Did any of His dealings with you show you the goodness of God?
What leads you to repent of your sins and exercise faith in God?
