BREAKING NEWS!...... Pabst shuts down Schlitz beer after 177 years
Pabst Brewing Company announced today that it will discontinue Schlitz, the historic Milwaukee-born beer brand that traced its roots back 177 years. The decision ends nearly two centuries of production and marketing for one of America’s oldest and once-best-known breweries.
Why the shutdown
Declining sales: Schlitz’s market share eroded steadily over recent decades as consumer tastes shifted to craft beers, imports, and premium domestic labels. Pabst cited prolonged declines in volume that made continued production unsustainable.
Portfolio focus: Pabst said it will concentrate resources on higher-performing brands in its portfolio and invest in merchandising, marketing, and distribution where returns are stronger.
Cost pressures: Rising input costs, supply-chain constraints, and distribution expenses were listed as contributing factors that reduced margins and accelerated the decision.
What it means for consumers
Shelf presence: Schlitz will be phased out gradually; existing inventory will continue to sell until depleted. Stores and distributors will receive guidance on discontinued ordering and returns.
What’s next for Pabst
Reallocation: Pabst plans to reallocate production capacity and marketing spend toward its most profitable lines and experimental launches.
Brand stewardship: The company said it will manage trademarks and intellectual property related to Schlitz, leaving open the possibility of future limited releases, licensing, or use in heritage marketing—though no specific plans were announced.

I HAD NO IDEA SCHLITZ HAD BEEN AROUND THAT LONG. IT WAS A VERY POPULAR BEER BEER WHEN I WAS CHILD. PERSONALLY, I NEVER TRIED IT.
